Tips when Doing Exercises
There are two ways to avoid injury when we go to the gym: doing very intense exercise with poor technique or doing moderate-intensity exercise but repetitive. While the former can cause fractures, breaks and tears, the latter favoring the tendinitis, nerve compression or stress fractures.
With general guidelines and simple to remember we can avoid this type of injury when going to the gym, we just have to be careful when we do exercises and follow these tips:
■ Avoid hyperextension and hyperflexion of all the joints in general and of the knees and lower back in particular. For example in the knee squat exercise should not exceed 90 º and in the bench press elbows either, as in the positive phase we shall not extend to 180 º.
■ Beware of the neck: fast and uncontrolled movements often cause problems on the nervous in the cervical area. We must avoid making full rotations of the neck, or exercises that involve a lot of effort and where the head is not supported. Read the rest of this entry »
