Healthy Food Choices for Children
Eat what is healthy?
Eating healthy is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and is something that should be taught from childhood. Here are some general guidelines to help your teen to eat healthy. It is important to tell your doctor about your child’s eating habits before you make changes or your child start a diet. Make sure your child is a healthy eating plan, talk to him about the following recommendations:
* Eat three meals a day with healthy snacks.
* Increase consumption of fiber in the diet and reduce the use of salt.
* Drink more water. Try to avoid soft drinks and juices with high sugar content.
* For children and adolescents in developing typically recommend that instead of counting calories in food, to control the total fat intake.
* Maintain a balanced diet.
* When cooking for your child, try to roast or grilled rather than fried.
* Make sure that your child controls (and reduced, if necessary) of sugar consumption.
* Eat fruit or vegetables as snacks.
* For children older than 5 years, using products with low-fat milk.
* Reduce the use of butter and heavy gravies.
* Eat more chicken and fish.
