Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)

DASH diet may prevent kidney stones
According to a study that is published in the latest edition of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, the DASH diet (acronym in English for “Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension“) usually recommended to treat high blood pressure, could also be useful to reduce the chances of developing kidney stones.
The DASH diet is characterized by being rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains, besides allowing moderate consumption of fish, lean meats and nonfat dairy. According to the researchers were able to establish, those adults who were accustomed to eating such food (or not following the DASH diet) had up to forty-five percent less likely to develop kidney stones.
Note that the original study did not plan to analyze the impact of the DASH diet on the development of kidney stones and the results have come into conflict with the nutritional strategies recommended for people susceptible to this disease, according to the statement made by Eric Taylor, MD of Harvard Medical School in Boston.
The findings of the investigation arose after it was analyzed three studies in the United States, a total two hundred and forty two thousand people (men and women), whom he followed for fourteen years.
Although data are encouraging, Dr. Taylor recommended that all patients performing a consultation with your doctor before starting to follow the DASH diet or other diet of these features.
